FROM SHRI C.B. SATPATHY'S MESSAGE
……“Usually Masters like
Baba do not force disciples to follow their advice. They
suggest the prescriptions directly (through words, actions
and direct experiences etc.) and/or indirectly (through
dreams, anecdotes, hints and mediums etc.) to each disciple
or some times to a group of disciples. Baba at times used
to speak cryptic or broken sentences or utter a certain
un-intelligible language. The devotees could understand
its meaning only after a protracted mental deliberation
over the issue. Baba could have given a direct solution
but His method was to lead the devotee through a self-finding
mental process. Many a times He would enquire from some
devotees as to what they were talking about when they
were together. He would then advise them on how to handle
the compulsive negative thoughts of mind and to inculcate
a habit of generating positive thoughts. The omniscient
Sadguru used to keep a watch on the negative and positive
thoughts of His disciples and there are hundreds of such
examples. Baba used to create thought waves in the minds
of devotees by His subtle powers thereby leading them
to find a solution to their own problems. To many, He
used to give direction in dreams as well. He used to render
such help with a view to create a clearer and purer state
of mind in the devotees, which is essentially required
to tread along the path of spiritual evolution as per
His (the Master’s) scheme. The Sadgurus do not wish
to keep Their disciples dependent on Them for all times
to come with a view to get their service. What they desire
is to evolve the disciples to the state of perfect human
beings (Satpurush), with perfect noble qualities so that
they can further carry on certain subtle and difficult
tasks on this earth or elsewhere in accordance with the
Divine Plan. The Sadgurus not only give emancipation to
the human-souls under Their care but also create a few
spiritual workers from among the evolved devotees to assist
Them in Their universal and subtle activities. The basic
principle They follow is to light a number of candles
from a single candle and They expect the process to continue
for all times to come.
If we analyse the
different methods that Shri Sai adopted while dealing
with different devotees, one of his prescriptions stands
out prominently i.e. the qualitative evolution of mind.
In whatever He did towards the training of His devotees,
the moot idea of Baba was to evolve not only the mental
qualities but also the thought process itself. For example,
when Nana Saheb Chandorkar sitting near Baba at Dwarakamayee
Masjid was attracted by the beauty of a woman, Baba never
advised him not to look at women. What He advised was
that while looking at any beautiful woman or beautiful
object, one should think of 'beauty' as an aspect of God’s
creation. He further emphasized on the internal beauty
of the soul and not on the external beauty of the body.
The lesson that Baba gave was that when the mind is attracted
to anything, it is better to attach a higher value to
the thought itself rather than to struggle with mind to
avoid the object of attraction. No one can struggle with
his own mind, as it is the most powerful force in human
beings as ordained by nature. The moment one tries to
struggle with mind in order to erase an evil thought or
enforce a good thought sheerly by one's will, it is bound
to create certain reactions and such reactions lead to
further problems. This is the most difficult task for
any human being to perform, living as he does in a complex
world. Therefore, Baba used to keep a constant watch on
the thoughts arising in the minds of His devotees and
guide them promptly.
For example He asked
Kaka Saheb Dixit to stay quietly (Uge-muge) in Dixit-Wada
at Shirdi and not to mix with others. He told Dixit that
he should be wary of thieves in the Wada lest they would
take away everything, meaning thereby loss of his positive
quality of mind and peace. Similarly Upasani Baba was
asked to stay at Khandoba temple and not to meet any one.
He was not even allowed to meet Baba sitting a few hundred
yards away for a long time. By separating the genuine
seekers from the rest of the world, Baba wanted them to
maintain a purer and positive state of mind and not to
get contaminated by the negative thoughts of others as
usually happens in social interactions. Baba used to render
advice in the same or similar line to different devotees
e. g. to keep one’s promise always, to make adequate
payment for the services received from any person, to
tolerate and not to quarrel even if provoked, to avoid
speaking ill of others, to avoid differentiating among
human beings on the grounds of material or social differentiation
etc. and finally to visualise the presence of God in every
object, every thought and every feeling.
All religious rituals
including Poojas, Aartis and Parayanas, etc. are methods
of human evolution at the first stage. Evolution of the
thought process of mind in itself is the intermediary
stage and emancipation of the soul through realization
of God is the third and final stage in the spiritual journey
of the soul. Since the omniscient Baba could easily read
through the thoughts of all His devotees, He could prescribe
the methods of thought control and spiritual evolution
to each devotee, specific to him.
History shows that it is the positive forces of human
minds that had created mighty civilizations and it is
the negative forces of human minds that had brought about
the total destruction of their own civilization as had
happened in Rome, Egypt, Peru etc. We see the world as
our mind visualises it and our visualisation is limited
and often distorted. We see the world with a fixed kaleidoscope
from a certain angle. If the kaleidoscope is rotated,
then different forms and patterns of life would appear.
Since each individual sees life from a certain fixed angle,
each experiences a specific pattern, the pattern of life
experienced by him seems to be the only truth. Let alone
the people with a predominantly evil nature, even people
with the best of qualities suffer from this limitation
of mental fixity. It is seen that at times the best qualities
of an individual, become the greatest block in his evolution
in certain situations. For example, there was a kind person
who used to help every one. He had the expectation, as
is usually the case with human beings that others would
be equally kind to him and reciprocate, in his bad times.
But when he was in distress every one did not render the
required help in the manner and to the extent he had rendered
to them. As a result, he started questioning the very
plinth of kindness and decided not to help others as he
used to do earlier. Now his proactive kindness turned
to reactive narrow-mindedness. His evolved quality of
natural benevolence was blocked and the evolution process
of mind slowed down. No doubt as a worldly-wise person
he went a step forward but in his spiritual evolution
he had gone a step backward. If he had the flexibility
of mind to accept the imperfection in others without passing
value judgement over the imperfect conduct of others,
he would have been happier and more evolved. The lesson
to learn is that howsoever perfect one claims to be, the
universal nature (containing both so called perfect and
imperfect aspects), does not give a license to any one
condemn others, howsoever, imperfect. Therefore, the wise
ones have proclaimed that one may hate sin but not the
sinner. Baba unequivocally declared that when any one
condemned any one else, his feelings were hurt.
Some psycho-analysts
hold the view that inflexible perfectionists suffer psychological
stress the most as they find it difficult to adjust with
the imperfect traits in the character of others with whom
they interact. Such persons are, sometimes, highly creative
because of their sense of perfection but nevertheless
they suffer the most due to social maladjustment. This
problem of human beings is not limited to this category
alone. It is more or less with every one to some extent.
The fundamental problem with the magnificent human being
is that each person considers himself to be the centre
of the Universe – the little Universe he has created
for himself. Therefore, he desires that every thing around
him should fall in line with the requirements of that
little Universe. They are not prepared to visualise themselves
as an infinitesimally small particle in the vast Universe
with millions and millions of ever changing patterns.
These millions of little Universes juxtaposed in the social
fabric of our complex world try to clash with each other
and to pull each other apart by the gravitational force
of their atomic individualism or ego. The Sadgurus have
always tried to give simple solutions to this complex
problem.
If we follow the prescriptions
of Baba, as contained in Shri Sai Satcharitra our thought
process can go through a qualitative change and we can
have a clearer picture of the world around us. It will
not only do good to us but also to others around us. Therefore,
when reading Shri Sai Satcharitra or other literature
on Baba, our thoughts should always be focused on this
aspect of conscious mental evolution that Baba repeatedly
taught and exemplified through his own conduct..”…….
FROM "LIFE OF SAI BABA" BY NARASIMHA SWAMI
……“As for worldly matters,
naturally in the position of a judge, he had not much
trouble, though on account of his increasing family burdens,
he had demands and burdens. But Rege never troubled Baba
with prayers for worldly gain or support, for instance,
in matters of promotion, etc. He had his income from property
and insurance. He was quite content with the provision
for the present and the future. If need arose, somehow
money was coming in, and Rege had nothing to complain
of.
Baba's kindness and
provision for Rege's welfare had no limit. Rege says that
it is not possible to give out all his experiences, but
about Baba's method of communication, he gives a classification.
There are three forms. The first is in the active waking
state. When the sishya is in difficulties or Baba wants
his sishya to take a particular course, the sishya gets
an inspiration as to what course should be adopted and
the feeling that that is Baba's inspiration. That is quite
enough, and is verified by the events in his own case.
When he was at the Ayi's house, he would feel that Baba
called him, and would go up to the Mosque and find that
Baba was actually waiting for him there. So, the inspiration
really came from Baba.
Baba would give him
some songs to sing or some tunes, because both Baba and
Rege knew music. The second relates to the sleeping or
trance state. Baba would appear in dreams or trances.
This would be called Sakshatkara and is considered most
impressive and unmistakable. Of course Rege had Baba's
Sakshatkaras. In the third method, Baba directed his sishya
to go to some other person, who did not even know why
the sishya was sent, but who nevertheless benefited the
sishya in accordance with Baba's internal and unperceived
guidance. Sometimes the person to whom Baba sends a devotee
is totally unfit to give any reply, for instance, the
rustic girl to whom Das Ganu was sent for interpreting
Isavasya Upanishad'.
Mr. Rege tells how
he was sent to several persons in the year 1912. He had
taken Rs. 100 with him in his pocket to Shirdi. Baba asked
for dakshina of Rs. 40 first, again Rs 40, and again the
balance of Rs. 20. Then again, he asked for dakshina,
and when Rege said he had no more left, Baba said, 'Go
and get it'. 'From whom?' asked Rege. The answer was "From
Shama", a woefully poor man. When Rege went to Shama
and told him that Baba wanted dakshina to be taken from
him, Shama replied, 'You do not understand Baba at all.
Baba does not care even a rap for your rupees. What he
wants is your mind, your heart, your time, and your soul,
to be devoted to him. That is the meaning' Rege went back
and reported this to Baba.
Baba smiled and said,
'Go and ask Kaka (Dixit).' So he went to H. S. Dixit.
This was in 1912, when Dixit's practice was extinct. Dixit
said that he had no cash and that Baba's direction must
be understood as a lesson that Rege should not feel being
poor or begging for money or asking for anything else
to be a humiliation. "Don't feel it to be infra dig
to do anything for the Master", he said. Dixit said
that Rege should never esteem himself to be above begging.
So Rege went back and reported to Baba. Again Baba smiled
and said, 'Go to Nana (Chandorkar)'.
Rege went to N. G. Chandorkar
at Khandoba's temple where he was reading religious books
with the learned Upasani Sastri. Chandorkar then sketched
out plans and schemes and showed how he himself arranged
to bring a lump sum, left one half of it at Kopergaon,
went on giving dakshina after dakshina, and at the opportune
moment sent for his reserve in Kopergaon. Chandorkar in
his worldly wisdom said, 'You must act like that'. Rege
reported this to Baba. Baba sent for Nana Chandorkar and
asked first for Rs. 40, again for Rs. 40, and again for
the balance of Rs. 20.
Immediately he asked
for another Rs. 20 before the Kopergaon reserve would
come. Thus Nana was taught a lesson that it was presumption
on his part to suppose that he was the great Providence
supplying the needs of Baba, which was the impression
he had. So, Baba showed how differently demands for dakshina
were intepreted by different devotees. Rege concludes
that the object of the whole proceeding was to teach lessons
to him and to Chandorkar. Baba really cared nothing. at
all for money or for presents and wanted only love-deep,
intense, passionate, and wholehearted love. ”……
DEVOTEE EXPERIENCE
I am Sai devotee since
my childhood. My day starts with Sai prayers. In every
distress and trouble Sai helps us always. On Sunday 3rd
Sept, 2006, my Daddy suddenly started getting hiccups.
He took some home medicine. The whole day he was getting
hiccups continuously for 2 - 2 ½ hours. They would
stop for some time and then start again for 2 - 2 ½
hours. As it was Sunday, we telephoned the doctor. He
told us to give him one tablet.
He took the medicine
but that did not help. On Monday morning we took him to
the doctor. He took the prescribed medicine, had his lunch
and went to sleep. Usually he takes rest only for 2 hours,
1.30 pm to 3.30 pm. That day till 4 o’clock he was
fast asleep, it became 4.15 pm but there no sign of his
waking up. My sister and I called Daddy, he responded
but turn his side and again slept. We waited for another
15 minutes and again called him but again he changed the
side and slept.
We found something
strange. Immediately we prepared sugar water solution
as Daddy is a diabetic patient, but he refused to take
it. Somehow we managed to make him to sit and tried giving
water but he threw it out of his mouth. I went to call
a nearby Doctor who usually comes by 5.30 pm but luckily
that day he was there at 4.45 pm. The Doctor checked his
diabetes on a glucometer and said it had fallen to 20
and we should rush him to the hospital.
Daddy had become semi
unconscious. We called up our cousin brother, who was
luckily in a nearby area and reached the hospital before
us. Our neighbors helped us to take Daddy to the hospital.
Through the traffic jam we managed to reach the hospital.
My brother had already met the doctor and kept things
ready. Hospital doctors immediately put him on glucose.
Within ½ hour after admission he became fully conscious
and was surprised that he was in the hospital. His condition
was diagnosed as pneumonia patch on his lungs, starting
of jaundice, chest congestion. The pneumonia patch had
touched the diaphragm, the reason for the continuous hiccups.
Because of all these internal complications his sugar
levels had become so low.
He was in the hospital
for 8 days. Now, he is completely all right. Doctors said
diabetes count of 20 is too dangerous and at a count below
30, a person cannot survive. That can even lead to some
dangerous side effects. Also, his pneumonia was detected
on time. Our
saver Sai helped us.
When my daddy was
in the hospital, one evening my younger sister was returning
home from the hospital. Her leg got stuck in one pothole
and she had a fall. Her ankle got twisted and she was
unable to get up. She was crossing the lane. Suddenly
one rickshaw stood next to her and she somehow managed
to get up and get into the rickshaw. The rickshaw driver
started the rickshaw without asking her anything. After
some time she told him where to take her. She had fractured
her leg. After putting plaster on her leg for 1 ½
month, she is okay now. From where did the rickshaw arrive
right on time? Who else other than Sai can send help.
By the grace of Baba, both
my sister and daddy are fine now.

TOPIC OF DISCUSSION
Sai's Message
To The Children
The word “Children”
immediately brings to our mind, tiny tots and children
below adolescent age. We selectively forget that we, the
adults, are also Children of God. What is true for us
has then to be true for the small kids too.
Sai’s message is Universal.
To attain the goal of “Vasudeva Kudambakam”,
meaning the world must be a place for peace lovers belonging
to one and the same family. It is said that the birth
of a human being is the most prized award; each soul gets
in response to its deeds and misdeeds in earlier lives.
If that be so, it cannot be wasted away in peripheral
anxieties and so called worldly pleasures, which are invariably
short-lived. We must always be looking for salvation,
to avoid re-birth and to be one with Sai forever.
Sai’s guiding principles
towards this end are:-
(a) To serve humanity, and
to serve with unconditional love.
(b) Partake in sufferings of less privileged and up-lift
them in their life.
(c) Always work with dedication and commitment.
(d) Develop patience and “vairagya” to complete
any task undertaken.
(e) Never publicize your good deeds.
(f) Never desist from sharing your bounties.
(g) Have unstinted faith in Him – why fear when
He is there?
(h) Aspire for everlasting peace and a place next to Him.
(i) Follow His eleven prized Do’s and Don’ts
publicized in all Sai Mandirs.
Sai’s message to us,
the Children, in nutshell is to serve, serve, serve and
serve the humanity ever.

• Excellent piece of advice...This, we must take
as directive since we do not understand any other polite
language...We Hindus take everything casually...We, Saibaba
devotes must have prescribed dress code while going inside
a Shri Shirdi Saibaba Temple,
• There should not be pushing around while in queue...
• While in queue we must not even ask the person
in front to move forward; let him take his time to understand
that devotees are waiting behind him...he must realise
this...
• We must not discuss while waiting in the queue,
even if we have to wait a while, just quietly recite Sainathai
namaha...
Shri
Satpathyji should direct and guide us and lay down the
procedure..

This is my true story. What you plant is what you reap.
I planted unfaithfulness towards my wife, I did breach
of trust, I broke confidence, I ruined lives & now
I am paying for it. It is only my Baba who is there with
me at this time. There is no one else to support me &
get my family & life back on track.
Please be careful of your action.
• if you want to do bad for someone try to push
it back or ignore it, it will save you in future
• if you want to do good for someone do it right
